Jim Carrey Biography

Jim Carrey was born as James Eugene Carrey on the 17th of January, 1962, in Newmarket, Ontario. He is the youngest of four children born to Percy, a sharp witted man and Kathleen. It is in Newmarket where Carrey spent his early years with his three older siblings - Pat, John and Rita - and parents Percy (an accountant and aspiring jazz saxophonist) and Kathleen. Percy was formerly a sax player in a big band, but in order to take a job as an accountant, he had to sell his sax and even his dreams. Kathleen is always sick with illness and suffered from depression. Kathleen consistently refers to Carrey as a "Loser". Indeed, Jim would later model The Mask's Stanley Ipkiss on him.

Jim Carrey, a born extrovert, performed for anybody who would love to watch. At the age of 10, he even mailed his résumé to "The Carol Burnett Show" (1967).At times he is unable to control the burning passion to perform and therefore it flows out. At the end of the day, in junior high he was granted a few precious minutes at the end of each school day to do stand-up routines for his classmates. A Tragic period came in his life in early adolescence when the family was forced to move from their cozy town of Newmarket to Scarborough (a Toronto suburb). Jim had to work in 8-hour shifts after school, in Titan Wheel Factory. This greatly hampered his morale and grade. Back to his birth place, in Toronto, Carrey decided to strike out into the comedy club scene. His professional stand-up debut at Yuk-Yuk's, one of the many local clubs forms the base of his training ground in the years to come.

After being through his comedy club debut at age 16, though a failure, Carrey was determined to fight with life and not to be beaten down by life's discontentment. By age 22, he emerged as a comic figure and earned a good living out of it and was starring on the short-lived sitcom The Duck Factory. Throughout the 1980s, Carrey can be viewed on screen in supporting roles in such films as Peggy Sue Got Married (1986) and Earth Girls are Easy (1990). With the release of three top-grossing comedy films to his credit: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber, the year 1994 can be labeled as "The Year of Carrey," By the end of the 1994, Carrey was in demand and therefore was commanding seven to ten million dollars per picture. The actor/comedian, Jim Carrey, in 1995, took over for Robin Williams as The Riddler in the blockbuster film Batman Forever

Liar (1997) helped Carrey to discover a new identity for him. Carrey also performed a comedy of a different sort with the lead role in Milos Forman's Man on the Moon (1999).In the following year, with the Farrelly brothers' Me, Myself & Irene, Carrey starred as a cop with a split personality, both of whom are in love with the same woman (Renée Zellweger). That same year, he received a Golden Globe nomination for his leading role in Ron Howard's Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas, no doubt there was widespread critical-contempt for the film. Continuing to seek acceptance as a skilled dramatist, Carrey next appeared in the 2001 box-office bomb The Majestic.

The Majestic, which proved to be a failure, Carrey didn't accepted defeat. He took life as a game with its own rules. Then with 2003's, Bruce Almighty, Carrey become a part of comedy and box-office success once again. Then once again in 2004, Carrey exhibit his talents in mind-bending romantic-dramedy Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

A serious comedian

Jim wanted to showcase how "serious" he could be as an actor in one of his first "serious" roles in The Truman Show. But the movie watching public puts forth that they love him more when he is talking with his butt cheeks. His art of twisting face is also admired by his viewers.

Multitalented personality

On June 24th 1999, he along with the production crew of Me, Myself & Irene (2000), has attended a private music show of the band Phish at the guitarist/vocalist house in Careystock, Vermont. There, he sang two songs with Phish, "Hey You" by Bachman Turner Overdrive and "Come Together" by The Beatles.
