Jude Law Biography
Jude Law was born in London on December 29, 1972. Law started acting as a teenager. He is reportedly named after the Beatles' song, "Hey Jude," or maybe the title character in Thomas Hardy's "Jude The Obscure" - a title not destined to describe him well, by his parents, Peter and Maggie. His notable role in Shopping (1994), earned him early appreciation and also a true identification. It is this British Production only which has put him across his future wife, actress Sadie Frost (the couple has two children). After the commercial and critical success of Indiscretions, Law had a burning desire to work in films, starring as the genetically privileged man who sells his identity to Ethan Hawke in Gattaca (1997) and as Claire Danes' boyfriend in I Love You, I Love You Not (1997). Although there were productions which didn't beat the box-office, but they marked a beginning for Law, an actor that has to be taken seriously.
Then came 1997 and Law grabbed a small part in Bent and the more central role of Billy, Jim Williams' quarrelsome and wretched lover in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Next, Law went on to make a few smaller films, including Music From Another Room (also starring a still unknown Gretchen Mol) and The Final Cut. In most of these films, he played a sinister, deceased version of himself.
His reputation as one of the promising and coming-up actors established when he was honored both as a Golden Globe and Oscar nominator for Best Supporting Actor for his performance. After enjoying a twist as a Russian marksman facing off against a Nazi sniper in Enemy at the Gates (2001), he moved on to sci-fi with his role as love machine Gigolo Joe in Steven Spielberg's eagerly anticipated A.I. Besides his dedication to acting, he kept himself busy with Natural Nylon, his production company. For his performance in Cold Mountain (2003), he won an Oscar. Year 2004, was the inescapable year for Law, with generous roles in a grand total of six films. First up, he was screened in the title role in the blue-screened sci-fi action flick Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, starring alongside the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, and a "resurrected" Laurence Olivier. A month later, he was found engaged in the ensemble cast of David O. Russell's comedy I Heart Huckabees and the remake of Alfie. It was in the end of 2004, that the audiences could notice him in Mike Nichols' romantic drama Closer, as Errol Flynn in Martin Scorsese's Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator. In the Avaitor, he gives the voice of the title character in the big-screen adaptation of Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events.
The outstanding performance on his behalf is his starring in six films in four months: SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW, I HEART HUCKABEES, ALFIE, CLOSER, LEMONY SNICKET'S A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS, and THE AVIATOR. (2004)
Law backs off Gervais Comedy
Actor Jude Law has disappointed British comic Ricky Gervais by pulling out of his forthcoming star-studded television comedy Extras. The Alfie heart-throb, who was set to play himself in an episode of the long-awaited The Office follow-up, has blamed "work commitments" for the turn-around.
