Mel GibsonThe markedly handsome, blue-eyed Gibson, whom the US audienceshas honored with the throne of an "Australian actor", was born in New York State and immigrated to Australia in 1968. As the post-apocalyptic action hero, he carved his name in the hollywood busy world with the leather-clad title role of George Miller's Mad Max. In his another production, he came out as a retarded handyman in love with Piper Laurie in Tim (both 1979). Working as a director for Braveheart (1995), it proved to be a bigger project for him ever taken. Gibson starred as Sir William Wallace, a 13th-century Scottish nobleman, who is clad in a skirt, sporting blue war paint and wielding a big sword was persecuted for his efforts to free Scotland from English rule. Later in Disney's Pocahontas, Gibson becomes a mouthpiece for John Smith. Few words for MEL GIBSON"Mel Gibson's career exemplifies extraordinary ability, craftsmanship, and determination. He is an excellent example of a highly talented filmmaker whose work and creative vision are to be honored," festival founder Carlos de Abreu said. |
