Halle Berry Biography

A teenager with great looks, Halle Berry started her modeling career in the late 1980’s which paved the way for her success to the stardom. A star performer from childhood, after finishing her high school, she entered the Miss Teen Ohio Pageant and won the title, representing the state at the Miss Teen All American pageant. There after she bagged the title of first runner up at the Miss USA Competition and finished in the top five at the Miss World Pageant. She then took up regular modeling assignments in Chicago and New York. The transition from modeling to acting began in 1989, when she was cast as a teenage model in the short-lived ABC sitcom “Living Dolls”. After doing some guest work in other comedy series, Halle finally got the break in movie world through Spike Lee who offered her a challenging and demanding role of a crack addict in his “Jungle Fever” (1991). She delivered amazing performances in the next few releases like “Strictly Business” “The Last Boy Scout”, “Boomerang” and “Queen”. The other Blockbusters in which she proved her acting abilities are “Flint Stones”, “Losing Isaiah”, “The Rich Man’s Wife” and “Executive Decision”. In 1999, Halle Berry became the first ever black woman to be nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award for her performance in “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge”. The scintillating performance also netted her Emmy Award that year. In 2001, she delivered a scintillating and moving performance in “Monster’s Ball” which won critical acclaim for her work and she made history by becoming the first black woman ever to earn a Best Actress Academy Award.

28 February 2005 (WENN) Oscar-winner Halle Berry's flop Catwoman and President George W. Bush's government were the big winners at Saturday's Golden Raspberry Awards. Berry shocked film fans when she graciously arrived on stage, clutching her Academy Award, to collect her Worst Actress Razzie at the Los Angeles ceremony.
