Kate Winslet BiographyKate Elizabeth Winslet was born on October 5, 1975, to a family loaded with acting talent. Father Roger Winslet and mother Sally were actors, while uncle Robert Bridges once played a role in the original West End production of Oliver. She made her professional debut on television as a spokeschild for a popular British cereal and went on to attend a performing-arts high school. Following graduation in 1991, she launched her stage career, appearing in adaptations of The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole and Peter Pan. Her first big break came at age 17, when she was cast as an obsessive adolescent in Heavenly Creatures (1994). The film, based on the true story of two fantasy-gripped girls who commit a brutal murder, received modest distribution but was roundly praised by critics.
