Mya Biography

Mya was born on 10th October, 1979 in Washington, D.C. She began her career as a dancer and started learning dance from year 1982 at that moment she was just two years old. She lost her interest but again started in the year 1992. She has studied tapes of tap prodigy Savion Glover, best known as the mastermind behind the Broadway smash Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk, and joined the dance troupe T.W.A.

She started studying at Legendry Dance Theater of Harlem with Glover due to that she dropped with T.W.A group. Her style of creativeness impressed the tap savant and he gave her a solo chance in the Kennedy Center performance.

She mastered the skill of singing by the age of 15 and she started taking over the music industry. All this she could do with the help of her musically inclined father. Realizing her interest in the music he started promoting her by shopping around her demo tape, catching the interest of University Music president and CEO Haqq Islam. It takes two year for her to release her debut album. She recorded her album in New York, Philadelphia and Atlanta with notable contributors including labelmates Dru Hill, Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, Babyface, Darryl Pearson and Diane Warren. She released her album in the year 1998. The songs like “Its All about me” and some of the song of the album hits the chart in US and it reaches sixth position. She maintains her spirit and gave another big hit like “Ghetto Superstars (That Is What You Are)”, the song was also a soundtrack of Warren Beatty movie Bulworth. Her album climbed the US chart and reached at 29 positions. The number like “Movin On”, featuring No Limit Records’ star Silkk the Shocker manage with 34 positions in the hot 100 singles chart.

 


Coke Wants Mya

Coca-Cola is after the services of singing superstar Mya and actresses Courtenay Cox and Penelope Cruz for a new advertising campaign. The drink giant plans to feature Cruz guzzling Coke and Cox pouring a glass of the fizzy drink for husband David Arquette. They want Mya to record her own hip-hop version of Eddie Harris' golden oldie "Compared to what." Coke plan to bring popular celebrities to their ads is similar to the formula already used by rivals Pepsi Cola who have used Michael Jackson, Madonna and most recently Britney Spears.

Multi-platinum recording sensation Mya has landed a supporting role in the film adaptation of Broadway musical Chicago starring Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Richard Gere. Mya will play a sexy murderess named Mona, a part specifically tailored for her, and will be part of elaborate acting, singing and dance sequences with Zellweger and Zeta-Jones and Gere. This will be Mya's first featured film role.
